For all newer mum’s wanting to ‘get my body back’ remember 6 weeks after giving birth really is not a long time for your body to have recovered. It has endured 9 months of carrying your baby so your pelvis and alignment generally would have changed & then the whole trauma it has to go through when giving birth – whether by C section or a virginal birth.
C-Sections
Those who have had a C section – your scar may look ok, however, remember that it is the deeper scars that need time to mend.
Those who have an emergency C section you may find the scar is a lot more ‘bumpy’ as it was probably more of a rushed operation to get your baby out.
You can all start massaging along and under your scar. If there is an infection then wait for it to mend before massing along the actual scar. Maybe consider going to see Charlotte Lune who specialises in post natal massage.
If you want to get better results, then try not to get back running / CrossFit or HIIT classes at 10 – 12 weeks post C section. Build up your deep core and wait till you can load the abs properly. Come and see me for an assessment session if you want advise.
The body will naturally mend but give it time!
I know you all just want to feel ‘normal’ again but if you can just appreciate what your body has been through then you may realise it is more important to release some of the tightness you have in your back or bum rather than put your trainers on and get out for a run!
From 6 weeks to about 12 weeks you should be trying to reconnect with the sensations within your body, accepting you may have more a slightly swollen tummy from perhaps the inflammation still mending inside you.
The New Mums Fitness class is in Horfield Common/The Ardagh every Wednesday. You should be at least 6 weeks post birth after a vaginal delivery or 10 weeks post C section. Or come and have some 1:1 sessions to build back from within.
